Based on Aztec mythology, Mictlan would be the equivalent of Valhalla for the Aztec people. When they die, they must travel through the nine realms of suffering to be able to transcend to a higher level of existence. Before that, their hearts must be devoured by a monstrous feline named Alconáhuatl, the beholder of the gates to Mictlan. If they fail, their souls will be in torment for all eternity. These realms are ruled by a higher deity named Mictlantecuhtli: the ruler of death, the ruler of the underworld, Mictlan.

I seek for the vast lands
Where i´ll be resting for the whole eternity

My body is slowly rotting
and the maggots devour every part
leaving nothing behind

And now I should be put to the test
To prove him I´m worthy
To be in a higher realm
The 9 realms of the undead

I must endure till I reach my destination

I must cross the rivers of blood
With fearless beast

I must climb the obsidian mountains
That clash to each other
With blowing winds that pierce my soul
For the failures I committed.

Strong winds blowing away the worthless ones

Now moving on to the next realm
I witness warriors being pierced by the lost
Arrows in eternal battles

Judge to be chained in a never ending suffering loop
Forcing them to never transcend
To be the part of the universe

Now I´m in front of the mighty feline
That will devour my heart
To be separated from my physical body forever

Mictlan awaits
Mictlantecuhtli allows my eternal rest
